INTRODUCTION
This book, 'Using Quality to
Improve Business Performance', is intended to provide quality
professionals and students with a clear and comprehensive
understanding of how business processes can be energised for quality.
It delivers an exploration of the applicability and effectiveness of
different quality tools and techniques for all organisational types.
The intention being to encourage and stimulate the reader to feel
sufficiently confident to use the tools and techniques in a practical
and rewarding way to improve their business processes.
The book 'Using Quality to Improve
Business Performance' is part of a series of books aimed at meeting
the needs of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) Certificate and
Diploma qualifications. It is specifically aimed at CQI Units U303 and
U503 (Using Quality to Improve Business Performance). Naturally for
clarity and continuity purposes, there is some overlap between some of
the series titles. However, this book is expected to be 'stand alone' and provide a comprehensive and practical reference to using quality
to improve business processes.
This book has been developed to
support the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) course People in Quality

Geoff Vorley and Mary-Clare Bushell are both associate lecturers in Quality at Surrey University and founding directors of Quality Management and Training
